Doors Open Denver is a wonderful idea! I love it! It is a weekend where most of the wonderful buildings, new and historical, are open for the public's viewing. Here is how we spent the day.
First we visited Union Station, built in 1881.
In the basement was the Denver Society of Model Railroads. Wow! Was that a treat! The girls loved it. It was such wonderful detail, and so huge! Nearly as big as a basketball gymnasium, area-wise.
I had to get this picture for David. A bear getting into the beehives....especially meaningful after today's fiasco with the bears getting into our trash and our garage. More on that later.

After another long walk, we had some lunch at Chipotle and then went to see the Daniels and Fisher Tower. That was really exciting! I've wanted to do that for awhile!

...and another.
The D&F Tower is only open to the public during Doors Open Denver. This is the very snazzy office that is on the top floor. There were also some very high class offices on other floors that we saw.
After that we visited the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, which of course was very special because it was the first Opera House Zana has ever seen. She's a big fan of theatrical arts, and she loves opera.
She loved it! It is a very wonderful opera house, and very well designed. No microphones are needed, due to the design of the theatre itself. It was originally built in 1908 and seats just over 2000 people.
This is the wonderful blown glass chandelier. Zana agrees that every opera house should have a chandelier. :)
The Colorado Ballet performs here often, and this is a very real looking sculpture of ballet dancers.
When the Opera House first opened (again) back in 2005, it opened with the Phantom. People didn't expect it to sell out, but it did, and the Ellie has sold out every single show it has put on since then. Here is a mural poster of the Phantom signed by the performers. Zana really was happy, though you can't tell by the expression!
This is the building across from the Ellie. And of course...the big blue bear. :)
